Porsche vehicles are some of the most iconic automobiles in the world. As such special breed, they require regular maintenance to remain in peak operating conditions. A professional athlete requires regular checkups to ensure they continue to play at an elite level. Your Porsche relies on regularly scheduled maintenance to ensure that it is performing at the top of its game.
What is Porsche maintenance service?
Porsche maintenance service (or “tune up”/”check up”) is a list of detailed inspections and part replacement at specific intervals. In general, you should expect to service your Porsche every 10,000 miles or once per year. However, depending on the year, model and engine, the maintenance intervals may differ. We urge you to check your maintenance manual of your car for details. Or contact us and we will be glad to help with the exact maintenance for your car.
Porsche Panamera example

For some models (e.g. the 2014 Panamera (V6)/S/GTS/S E-Hybrid/Turbo), there are minor and major maintenance service intervals. They also vary with the age and mileage. The minor intervals are every 10k miles or every year (which ever occurs first) and they vary. The major intervals are done every 40k, 80k, 120k, 160k or every 4 years. E.g. for Panamera S/Turbo models, spark plugs should be replaced every 30k miles or 4 years. However, for Panamera/GTS/S-E Hybrid models, the spark plugs should be replaced every 40k miles or 4 years.
There are also time-dependent items that you should perform every 2 years regardless of mileage:
- Change brake fluid (use only genuine Porsche brake fluid)
- Clutch: Change brake fluid & perform test and adaption (use only Original Porsche Brake Fluid) Panamera S E-Hybrid
- Tire sealant (check expiration date and replace as necessary)
Porsche Cayenne example

On the other hand, the Porsche Cayenne (V6)/S/S Hybrid/Turbo (2011) also has minor and major maintenance schedules. In addition, it also has an intermediate maintenance. The intermediate maintenance is due at 20k, 60k, 100k, 140k miles, etc. If the mileage for scheduled maintenance is not reached, intermediate maintenance must be performed no later than after 2, 6, 10… years. The time-dependent items (every 2 years) are:
- Change brake fluid (use only Original Porsche Brake Fluid)
- Clutch: Change brake fluid & perform test and adaption (use only Original Porsche Brake Fluid) Cayenne S Hybrid
- (every 4 years) Replace tire sealant
For Porsche sports cars, like the Porsche 911 Carrera/S/4/4S/Turbo (991) (2014), the minor and major schedules are similar to the Panamera.
Porsche maintenance cost
The cost of maintaining a Porsche or any high-performance automobile can vary significantly. It is based on the age, mileage, and specific Porsche model. Whether you drive a twin-turbocharged 997 or a flat 6 Boxster, timely maintenance can save you thousands of dollars. Regular Porsche maintenance keeps the car in its best shape especially if you plan to keep it for a long period of time. Services are important because they proactively check and replace worn parts before one of them fails and ruins your day. Services also tighten up and reconfigure aspects of your car ensuring that those parts last much longer. In addition, the regular service is often a requirement to maintain your Porsche factory or third party warranty. Keeping records of doing maintenance is often crucial to avoid a denied warranty claim due to a lack of maintenance.
Misconceptions
A common myth that we have seen is that an engine oil change should be done every 3000 miles. Porsche recommends changing the engine oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first (may vary per model). However, in harsh running conditions like the typical South California hot summers, dusty climate and traffic conditions, a shorter interval is beneficial. We recommend 5,000 miles or 6 months for engine oil changes (or half of the factory interval if different). This helps keep the engine in its best shape.
